Once we’ve determined the editorial needs of your project, I can provide an estimate of the cost of the edit.
My rates roughly align with those listed in this Editorial Freelancers Association table. The rate ranges are based on a 2024 survey of EFA members.
Variables affecting cost include complexity. For example, does the writing suffer from inconsistent style and usage? Does the manuscript have a lot of notes, citations, cross-references, and tables? Is the content highly technical?
Your goal for the edit is another important variable. For example, you might want only a light copyedit to fix errors of spelling, capitalization, hyphenation, and the like. Or you might want a deeper straighten-out-my-tangled-prose edit—that is, a line edit. Or your work might need restructuring and refocusing—a developmental edit. See Levels of edit.
Cost is a function of time. After I’ve reviewed your manuscript, I can estimate the time for the agreed-on level of edit. That estimate can be expressed in hours or the total cost in dollars—whichever is best for you.
